From the age of three, he dreamed of being a pilot and began learning the skills he would need to fly as a member of the Civil Air Patrol when he was twelve years old. After his graduation from the Naval ROTC Program at the University of Nebraska he attended flight school where his dream of flying for the Navy became a reality. Ted currently resides in Fountain Hills, Arizona with his wife and his lab and hunting partner, “Bear”. He serves as the Municipal Court Judge for Fountain Hills. Ted was born and raised in Nebraska and graduated from the University of Nebraska and still remains a diehard HUSKER fan. After graduating from the University, Ted moved to Spokane, Washington where he attended Gonzaga Law School. Ted’s father was an avid pheasant and quail hunter and introduced Ted to hunting at a early age bird-dogging for him in the soilbank areas and cornfields of northeast Nebraska. Ted’s family moved to Broken Bow in 1970 where his parents became actively involved with the Nebraska One Box Pheasant Hunt. Ted has always appreciated and admired the camaraderie that his father and hunting pals have shared over the years and how proud they were to be a part of the One Box Pheasant Hunt. Ted participated in the One Box as a member of the 2003 Nebraska Team and is looking forward to participating in the One Box again this year.

MARK C. MAYER:
Mark grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago which did not afford him the opportunity to hunt and fish but he read every book and magazine that he could get his hands on. In his early teens, his family purchased an 80 acre small dairy farm deep in the woods of northwest Wisconsin. From that time forward until he went to college, he spent his weekends, school holidays and summer vacations there. His first love was the pursuit of ruffed grouse which still remains one of his favorite pursuits. While attending college he pursued bobwhite quail and waterfowl. Mark did not have the opportunity to hunt pheasants and sage grouse until he attended graduate school in Wyoming. In 2001 Mark and his wife moved to Arizona and this has allowed him to pursue three species of quail on a weekly basis during the four month long season. Mark has owned several hunting dogs and currently owns one that he uses for hunting. With almost 30 years of experience as a municipal department head of a parks and recreation department in four different states his life has been committed to making the communities in which he has worked a better place to live, especially for the youth and looks forward to having the opportunity to support the One Box event and its youth activities.

TED RASMUSSEN:
Ted was born in Cozad, Nebraska and in 1964 his family moved to Nevada. Ted is married and has two sons and one daughter and he practices accounting and law in Tekoa Washington which is approximately 45 miles south of Spokane. As a youth, Ted looked forward to the pheasant hunting trips with his father and grandfather and he received his first shotgun, a Winchester Model 12 – 20 ga., for his 10th birthday and has hunted pheasants ever since. He passed the shotgun down to his son who is the “4th Generation Rasmussen” to have it. Ted was born in Cozad, Nebraska and he still bleeds “HUSKER” red.

RONALD TEE:
Ronald was born and lived in Eastern Washington for 60 years. He has hunted pheasants, quail, ducks and geese since he was of legal age and licensed to do so. Ron’s father always told him that “every man should have one good wife and one good hunting dog during his life”. He has had two good hunting dogs but confesses that he has had a number of good hunting dogs and one great understanding wife. Hunting season has a special significance in his occupation. As a farmer it comes at the time of season end and is a finale to the summer’s work, a time to look back on the warm days and a time to contemplate the new year as he walks through the fall grasses in search of game birds with his dog. Ron says there is a special joy in watching a dog working a draw and then alerting when he finds its quarry. He treasures these times and hopes to continue enjoying hunting and returning to the One Box Hunt for many years.

AL GAUPER:
Al was born and raised in northern Minnesota. He started hunting with his dad when he was in the 4th grade. His father was a high school biology teacher and an avid outdoorsman (but a mediocre hunter). Being in nature mattered much more than shooting at anything. They explored the deep woods theoretically hunting partridge, avoiding roads or signs of roads at all cost. The number of times they were lost was never fully disclosed. They hunted ducks and deer with moderate success. In 1980 Ted Armbruster, whom Al had just recently met, told him over way too many beers about the One Box Hunt. They barely had money for beer, but they vowed one day to participate in the hunt and that day has now come. Al is an attorney in Spokane, Washington and he and his wife Carol are the parents of Lindsey, a senior at Washington State University and Alex, a freshman at the University of St. Thomas.
